September Book Club: The Hobbit
“I am looking for someone to share in an adventure that I am arranging, and it’s very difficult to find anyone.” – Gandalf
Ready to go on an adventure? We are kicking off this year’s book clubs with the wonderful classic adventure story: “The Hobbit” by J.R.R. Tolkien. We’ll be celebrating Bilbo’s Birthday on Friday, September 20th at 1pm with a Hobbit Party – dressing up is encouraged! We’ll have a great time visiting Middle Earth and the Shire, as well as have some discussion about “The Hobbit”.
Our book clubs are open to anyone to attend, no membership needed. If you have food allergies please let us know. Contact Ashley if you have any questions at library@cbclilburn.org.
Join our Women’s Group!
This fall, we will be hosting our first Women’s Group in the library! We’ll be going through the book “Another Gospel?” by Alisa Childers. This book tackles the question of Progressive Christianity versus Traditional Christianity, exploring what the Bible says, and how we as Christians should be responding.
Our 6-week study will meet in the library on Monday nights from 6:30pm to 8:30pm starting on September 16th. Each meeting will be part video and part discussion led by our director, Ashley Borrego. All participants should plan to read two chapters of the book “Another Gospel?” each week for homework. This group is open to any woman who is interested – no need to be a library or church member. Space is limited to 12 participants.
To sign up to attend, please email Ashley at library@cbclilburn.org.

Clive’s Corner: Books for Moms
Enjoy these monthly recommendations from our library mascot, Clive
Most of us are gearing up our new school year, and I wanted to highlight some of the books we have just for homeschool moms! These can be all found in our “Education” section of the library and I hope they’re a blessing to you!
Educating the Wholehearted Child by Clay Clarkson – A handbook for Christian home education. A commonsense, disciple-based biblical approach to home schooling using real books and real life. Filled with Scriptures, anecdotes, insights, ideas, methods, lists and charts to make living and learning at home natural and enjoyable.
Gather: Exploring the Wonder, Wisdom, and Worship of Learning at Home by Pam Barnhill and Heather Tully – Gathering together is the key to efficient homeschooling. Families build relationships, share discoveries, experience joy and wonder, and model lifelong learning. The authors share their own stories along with inspiration, encouragement, and pages of practical advice to help you make whole-family learning viable in your own homeschool.
A Charlotte Mason Companion: Personal Reflections on the Gentle Art of Learning by Karen Andreola – The time-tested principles of respected 19th-century British educator Charlotte Mason are still popular with homeschoolers today. Discover how to teach children to think independently, retain what they learn, and communicate clearly by narrating what they read in “living books.”
The Read-Aloud Family: Making Meaningful and Lasting Connections with Your Kids by Sarah Mackenzie – This book champions the lifelong benefits of reading aloud to children and offers book lists, strategies, and tools parents can use to form deep and lasting connections with their kids.
Bringing Up Bookmonsters: The Joyful Way to Turn Your Child into a Fearless, Ravenous Reader by Amber and Andy Ankowski – Teaching your child to read is monstrously important, and there’s no better way to do it than with everyday opportunities for laughter and play. This book is full of tips make it easy to help your child develop an insatiable appetite for reading – and have a tremendously good time doing it!
Teaching from Rest: A Homeschooler’s Guide to Unshakable Peace by Sarah Mackenzie – Those who have made the decision to homeschool their children have done so out of great love for their children and a desire to provide them an excellent education in the context of a warm, enriching home. Yet so many parents also find this enterprise full of stress, worry, and anxiety. In this practical, faith-based book, the author addresses these questions directly, appealing to her own study of restful learning (scholé) and her struggle to bring restful learning to her (six) children.
101 Devotions for Homeschool Moms by Jackie Wellwood – Author Jackie Wellwood candidly shares her personal experiences with homeschooling and how they drew her closer to the Lord. She also blends those challenges with encouraging scriptural insights and closes each devotional with a prayer and questions that can help you apply God’s truths to your specific situation.
Community Choir
Join CBC’s community choir this fall as we prepare for our annual Lessons & Carols service on Sunday evening, December 8th at 6pm. The choir will be performing 5-6 songs, and the music is a combination of anthems/praise music and Christmas carols.
Practices will be on Sunday afternoons and will work out to be about 2 rehearsals a month. Our first rehearsal will be September 8th from 4-6pm. We will distribute music, discuss the event and share the vision, listen to some recordings and play through a few of the songs to start the learning process.
For more information and to RSVP, please contact Sally Johnston at bulletjohnston@yahoo.com or 404-558-5849.
