This Friday: NATURE Study!
This Friday (6/7) at 11am we will be HOPPING into summer nature studies with Megan Palich from Heartwood Homeschool Connection! Kids will explore frogs by observing live specimens, reading living books, and documenting with nature journals. This program will also serve as a tutorial for parents wishing to implement more nature study lessons in their homeschools. Toddlers and preschoolers will enjoy a frog pond sensory pool and circle time on their level. Bring lunch and a picnic blanket to enjoy together at the church. You are invited to join us for a nature walk along the accessible trail that runs along Garner Creek. Bring water shoes and clothes you don’t mind getting wet if you plan to join in on the creek fun.
Living Books, Frogs, Creeks… these are a few of my favorite things!!!

Clive’s Corner: Books are an Adventure!
Enjoy these monthly recommendations from our library mascot, Clive
It’s summer! Even if you still do some school through the summer, there’s just something different in the air. I always think of adventure when I think of summer. Reading a good book is like going on an adventure! I picked a few of my favorite books that I thought would be especially good summer reads!
The House on East 88th Street by Bernard Waber – What would you do if you moved into a new house, only to discover a crocodile in your bathtub?! This is exactly what happens to Mr. and Mrs. Primm in this delightful book about Lyle the Crocodile.
Blueberries for Sal by Robert McCloskey – Summer is blueberry season, and Sal and her mother have gone off to pick wild blueberries near their home in Maine. While picking, Sal runs into a baby bear! Robert McCloskey’s classic book is a must-read for all.
Andy and the Circus by Ellis Credle – Andy was in town running errands when he saw the circus poster! If *only* he could buy a ticket, but he has no money. The story follows Andy as he sets about seeking a job, helping friends and family along the way. This book is heartwarming and humorous, which exemplifying the values of self-reliance and kindness to others.
Homer Price by Robert McCloskey – Our second McCloskey book on this list, this one is a chapter book about a boy named Homer Price. Each chapter is an episode in Homer’s life in America in the mid 1900s, which are sure to be enjoyed by kids of all ages.
Wingfeather Saga by Andrew Peterson – Once, in a cottage above the cliffs on the Dark Sea of Darkness, there lived three children and their trusty dog, Nugget who are loved well by a noble mother and ex-pirate grandfather. Start with the first book “On the Edge of the Dark Sea of Darkness” and follow the Igiby children as they survive the evil pursuit of the venomous Fangs of Dang. This wonderful adventure makes a great family read aloud.
Half Magic by Edward Eager – It all begins with a strange coin on a sun-warmed sidewalk. Jane finds the coin, and because she and her siblings are having the worst, most dreadfully boring summer ever, she idly wishes something exciting would happen. And something does. Join Jane and her siblings on their summer adventure with a magic coin that grants wishes – kind of. And somehow, the summer becomes not so boring after all!
